Handing out of Certificates for Courses given under the Training Project "Madeira Handicrafts for the Future" - 31 March 2008
Through the Training Project "Madeira Handicrafts for the Future", the Office of the Regional Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources through the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts Institute (IVBAM),
intends to meet the training needs identified by the diagnostic studies carried out in recent years in the Handicrafts sectors of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The Project has as its objectives to introduce a new position for all the agents who are part of the value chain of handicrafts, as well as encouraging the adoption of new management tools, thereby promoting development of the sector and reinforcing its competitiveness. The intention is also to guarantee the transfer of "know-how" in various areas such as in the approach to markets, marketing, commercialization of products, promotion and creation of conditions to guarantee a greater capacity for innovation and approach to the needs shown by the consumers.
The main objectives of the training project are:
• Awareness raising for the agents of change;
• Improvement in the production process;
• Raised average level of qualification of participants in sector organizations;
• Renewal of the work force of the sector organizations;
• Attribution of the adequate relevance of Madeira handicrafts as one of the main gift products to be given to the tourists visiting the Region, contributing to a difference in the supply available to tourists.
Under this Project, as promoting and execution entity, IVBAM has developed, to date, the courses mentioned below which involve around 190 trainees.
The financial cost associated with the provision of these courses is approximately € 270,000 (75% funded by the ESF through the Prime Program, and 25% by the Budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira).
• Change Awareness Seminar (for outside collaborators of IVBAM);
• Change Awareness Seminar for Owners of Points of Sale (directed to shop owners selling Madeira Embroidery and Handicrafts produced in the Region);
• Making Points of Sale more dynamic (directed to shop owners selling Madeira Embroidery and Handicrafts produced in the Region);
• Making Points of Sale more dynamic (directed exclusively to Collaborators of shops selling Madeira Embroidery and Handicrafts produced in the Region);
• Teacher training in Madeira Embroidery Techniques (directed to Embroiderers working from Home);
• Awareness raising among Tourism Professionals (directed to Tourism Professionals);
• Training of Entrepreneurs (directed to those qualified in Design and Management) – running until June
At this time course certificates are to be handed out:
1-Teacher training in Madeira Embroidery Techniques
2-Making Points of Sale more dynamic –shop owners
3-Making Points of Sale more dynamic –Collaborators
1- Teacher training in Madeira Embroidery Techniques
In general terms, the objective of this course (273 hours), was to train a group of 13 embroiderers who work from home and who are recognized for their quality work in the different Madeira Embroidery stitches, so that they may develop competence in the areas of training and Madeira Embroidery techniques. As a result of this course, a bursary was created for teachers qualified in training Madeira Embroidery techniques.
The total cost of training program was € 32,246.
2-Course in Making Points of Sale more dynamic –shop owners
The existing situation in general in trade establishments does not contribute to the added value of regional products. In this context a course was carried out for Sale Point owners (11 trainees; 80 hours of classroom training and 56 hours "On the Job ", or in the working context), where different themes were developed related particularly to Management and Marketing.
The main objective of this course was to contribute to the introduction of an attitude of valuing regional products in the traditional trading establishments of the regional products which include the sale of Embroidery, Wine and other regional products. The results will only be visible in the medium to long term. However, an improvement in some of the commercial establishments that participated in the course as well as in other establishments has already been observed.
The total cost associated with this course was 55,650 Euros.
3-Course in Making Points of Sale more dynamic (Collaborators)
The objective of this course is to prepare the trainees (22 trainees in 12 trading establishments) to become agents of change at the points of sale in order to implement the concepts of quality, distinction, culture, quality and excellence.
The course Content Plan of this course (96 hours) includes different modules related to Client Attendance, Sales Techniques, Communication, Management of contacts, Quality of Service, Interpersonal Relations, Product Display and Shop Window Dressing /Merchandising, among others.
The main effects of this course will be noticed by clients, through the improvement of attendance techniques, and by shop owners through sales profits.
The course cost a total of € 22,722.
